I didn’t love this novel, and while I can absolutely understand and appreciate why this book is so popular, it never captured my attention the way plenty of others have in the past. Perhaps it was the slow burn of competing storylines that was to blame, or perhaps it was the very storylines themselves. Regardless, I would never suggest that anyone skip a novel that’s as critically acclaimed as Murakami’s, and that’s not what I intend to do here.
