I appreciate why this novel has earned its acclaim, but unfortunately it just never clicked for me. The exploration of mortality and the anxiety around death felt so relentlessly bleak that I found it difficult to enjoy spending time with it. The opening section in particular was a struggle to get through, and while I kept waiting for the story to become more engaging, it never quite did.
